Grade 9 Instrumental (course code AMI 1O) is a course designed to grow musicians. This course offers a wide array of instruments to choose from including Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Bass, and Percussion.
This course is designed especially to instill the musical foundations students will need before continuing on in instrumental music or joining our intermediate and senior specialty courses which include Guitar, Keyboarding, Music and Computers, and Vocal Music.
Music is a great way to create new and unique friendships while also building on existing ones. Many students will admit that the GBDSS music program has introduced them to their closest friends, whom they would not have met otherwise. The time spent with your friends at concerts, festivals, and weekly evening band rehearsals will create a special bond and make your high school experience a little less stressful!
A key part of the GBDSS music experience is the trips and performances that we participate in throughout every school year. Annual trips include music festival performances, retirement home visits, parades, elementary school performances, and of course many school concerts.
For senior students, GBDSS is proud to offer a Performance Production Specialist High Skills Major. This is a specialized program designed to provide students with opportunities to explore the performing arts sector. This program is open to students in any pathway (i.e. University/College/Workplace) who may be interested in pursuing careers in the performing arts. Through this program students will build a foundation of performing arts knowledge and skills, gain valuable work experience and receive employer recognized certifications and training.
