Game + Project Overview Spring

Overview:

You will be creating your own google slideshow this semester.

Course Projects - Solo or Group

If you are starting a new project, you may choose to use my original template from last semester or you may choose to make your own.

If you are returning to the existing project, I recommend that you start with your shortened slideshow and continue from there. Make a copy of the original so that you can preserve the 2 presentations. Make sure to add any new credits needed when there are new collaborators.

MA Projects

You will also be expected to make progress on whatever your MA Project is going to be. The measurable outcome of this will be the production of your MA Project Proposal. You need to develop and ensure that you leave this course with a strong sense of what your MA Project will be going forward. If you are working on a project in this class that is not your MA Project you are still expected to work on it in the class. We will develop your proposal, find committee members, create and user test your project in and outside of this class.

This MA Project Proposal or Presentation is due the last week of class as a part of your final exam. Please do not wait until the end of the semester. We will have iterative check points for those.

Presentations as outcomes of both courses.

You will have 4 presentations at the end of the course series of MI 839 and MI 846. Each semester should have their own long and short presentations.
You will also have a presentation of your Masters Project.

Submit:

Share the slideshow with anyone with a link, not just at MSU.
Submit in our course discord in your project channel.
You will not need to resubmit for each review unless there is a new slideshow.
You will be making 2 slideshows throughout this semester,
1. documents your full workflow
2. a shorter presentation for the final

Q + A

Can I just work on my Masters Project?

Yes, make sure you discuss with your team and let them know.
You should decide this in the first week of class.
or you could work on both your masters project and a team project or another individual project.

Can we move into production now?

Yes - But you will need to have an initial pitch presentation if you are starting a fully new project.
The proposal needs to be approved before moving forward.

You will be looking for conferences, awards, contests, grants and ways to boost your presence. You will learn about how to apply for them, how to organize your thoughts and how to match your needs with an organization's needs. Let's win this thing!

I see that the deadlines are staggered for the project teams and the game teams, do I need to come to class on my off days.

No. Use those days to work in the labs, get some time at the Library in the VR Room, Check out equipment, go get some Motion Capture Done.
You are always welcome to be in the classroom with me.
You are required to check in weekly. So don't miss a whole week with out an update to your project revisions and iterations, either in person or on discord.
When the dates in the timeline are highlighted bright orange for Project People or bright blue for Game People you are required to be present.

I want to pitch a new game or project. Do I have to do the same slideshows as we did in MI 839?

No, You have learned those methods, so use them to move forward and bring more of your own influence to the presentation.
