Throughout your career in the Foreign Service you will go through a "check-in" process every time you arrive at a new post (either overseas or domestic). So this is not only a list of things you have to do before Orientation, it's your very first Foreign Service CHECK-IN!
COMPLETE the Pre-Orientation Survey no later than Friday, March 13. This survey includes a language self-assessment and biographical questions for you to share a bit more about yourself.
ATTEND one of the Pre-Orientation Webinars hosted by the Orientation Division at NFATC.
APPLY for a Government Travel Card.
REVIEW the FAQ on Reimbursable Expenses and Allowances.
SELECT a Student Committee to serve on during orientation. You will include this information in the Pre-Orientation Survey.
REVIEW our Computer Guidance for the course.
TRANSFER your state.gov account. If you have a Department of State email account or had one within the last year, please contact the Information Management team at your current or most recent State Department bureau (domestic) or post (overseas) and ask them to prepare your account for transfer. You do not need to submit an IT Service Center account transfer request. The Orientation Division will submit a request on your behalf after receiving your pre-orientation survey. REVIEW the Roadmap for key dates and information about your class.
If applicable and interested, REGISTER your spouse or partner for the on-site Spouse/Partner Orientation Program.
