Clark State Forest

Clark State Forest is known as the oldest state forest in Indiana, sprawled over an area measuring 24,000 acres. With 45 sites to choose from, you can take your pick from a wide variety of camping spots where you can pitch your tent and simply be one with nature. For more adventures, you can choose from hundreds of trails that take you in and out of the woods if you want to hike or bike your way through. Other facilities that you might want to know about are seven playgrounds, two baseball fields, a tennis court, a basketball court, and a public gun range.

Angel Mounds State Historic Site

Indiana is also generous in sharing its culture and history, which is very well preserved. One such destination is the Angel Mounds State Historic Site. Several centuries back, this area was a thriving Mississippian Indian town, which is believed to have been occupied by between 1000 to 3000 inhabitants. It was eventually declared as a protected area owing to the significant heritage that it holds. Indiana University is responsible for excavations and research on the site. This site will surely draw in travelers who come over for some cultural enrichment.

Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge

South Central Indiana has a distinct natural border, which is the Muscatatuck River. This is where the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge gets its name. This area has always been referred to as a land of winding waters, a pocket of wetland where flood-prone creeks and small natural springs have attracted a diverse population of wildlife. As a destination, the area welcomes visitors who wish to go out for state-regulated fishing and hunting activities.
