Just like many communities throughout the country, and even the rest of the world, citizens of Hamilton County in Indiana have not been spared from the effects of the pandemic, shares Councilman Fred Glynn. Today's blog shares the latest update on this matter.
The good news is that help is on its way. Last February, county officials announced that they had been awarded a $10 million Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) grant from the U.S. Department of Treasury for COVID-19 assistance. This fund's specific purpose is to assist households in paying rental fees and other utilities for their living needs.
To facilitate this, the Hamilton County commissioners have entrusted the Hamilton County Trustee Association (HCTA) to oversee the grant with the funds being administered by the Westfield Washington Township (WWT) Trustees office, bares Fred Glynn.
The grant will be handed out to eligible recipients who are required to go through an application process this spring. This should provide much-needed relief for residents who have been unable to pay their rent since April 2020.
The ERA comes as a result of the recently initiated stimulus package from the U.S. Department of Treasury. Apart from Hamilton County, six other Indiana areas are set to receive COVID-19 relief assistance for rent and utilities.
County officials expect the distribution of funds to go on through December 31, 2021, or until all funds have been distributed.
The residents of Hamilton County and other neighboring counties in Indiana are high in spirits after this truly crucial development.
