Hamilton County was ranked by Forbes as the best place to live in the United States because of its low cost living, great schools, and its closeness to Indianapolis. It’s not just one of the best places to go and raise a family, it’s also one great place to come and visit. If you’re thinking of some place to visit in the Midwest, Hamilton County is the place. Here are some things to do when you come here as shared by Fred Glynn.
Much of the beauty in Hamilton County is concentrated in nature. Hamilton County boasts of lakes, creeks, and forests. You can go hiking through the Monon Trail and let the forest rejuvenate you. Koteewi Park hosts the Edge Adventure Indianopolis if you want to go through a fitness challenge while enjoying the outdoors. The White River Canoe Company provides a nice tour through some of the more scenic areas in Hamilton County’s rivers and lakes. Finally, if you want a quiet and serene hike, the Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve will calm your senses and give you a real break from the city.
Hamilton County is also abundant in the more genteel pleasures of the country. The county’s weather allows for the growing of grapes and that’s why it has plenty of vineyards and wineries. You can go to these wineries like Urban Vines Winery and Brewery Co. The wide greens of Hamilton County isn’t isolated to just forests, there are a lot of golf courses here too, so come visit if you want and putt through a few holes.
In case you want some shopping, Hamilton County is home to three of the biggest cities in the entire state. You can visit the Carmel Antique Market if you want something old and golden; and there are also three other downtown areas for mainstream shopping, notes Fred Glynn.
