FRC, or First Robotics Competition, is a program founded by Dean Kamen as a subsection of the F.I.R.S.T (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) program for the purpose of trying to get students into the field of S.T.E.M. while they are still in school. The teams participating in FRC can span from the same city as you, to a whole ocean separating you. Just as an example, in the Idaho regional for Charged up in 2023, there were teams from Canada, Minnesota, Utah, and even China, all together to compete.

What happens at Competition?
Competition can be thrilling (or boring at times) and so much fun. On the 1st day of competition, teams arrive, prepare their pits, set up the competition field and we usually help set up the arena if the team has the opportunity. On the 2nd day of competition, teams will arrive and go through inspections to see if their robot is ready to compete. Qualification matches also start on this day. On the 3rd day of competition, the rest of the qualification matches are concluded then Alliance Selections start and teams compete in Finals. At the end of the day we clean up our pit and head home!
For these three days, teams are together in a chaotic set of going into matches, fixing anything that may have broke in said match, and then going back, and going into another match. The whole team usually will be doing something, whether that would be working on the robot, scouting other teams, driving during matches, cheering during those matches, or something else out of the many, many things there are to do. There also may be a chance to see something interesting, just as an example, seeing someone with about a dozen hats on, while also trying to put another on top.
Every summer is the start of a new season. Each season, all FIRST programs get a new game. Our team, participating in FRC, get our game in January of every year. This comes with information spanning from the rules of the game to the rules of how we can design and build our robot. Each game provides a different set of challenges that teams must overcome. The challenges could range from learning to use camera vision to having to apply a new view to basic problems. Examples could be trying to pick up a cone, trash can, or maybe a ball.
