Taking the tent down is definitely easier than putting it up, but it is here that the majority of the errors are made! A wet damp tent folded or tucked away in a tent bag is a lost tent. Make sure tents are dry before they are stored.
Clear tent of all personal gear. Roll sleeping bags and pack gear inside the tent if the weather or ground is damp. Remove to vehicle or supply tents.
Sweep floor and check tent pockets to make sure all items have been removed.
If there has been heavy dew or it rained during the night, wipe off outside of fly. Remove fly if it is dry or there is an area to drape it so it can finish drying.
When the roof of the tent is dry, remove stakes on one side and tip tent on its side. This will allow the bottom of the tent to dry. Sweep/wipe bottom free of dirt and debris.
When bottom is dry, re-stake, and close windows and entrances. Leave a small gap in the closing. Remove poles.
Collapse air from tent. Remove stakes, clean and store immediately in stake bag to avoid misplacing them.
Fold tent keeping the bottom of the tent from touching the walls or roof of the tent. Fold and tightly roll tent. Remember it came out of the bag; it will fit in the bag! Add poles and stake bags midway through the rolling. This will ensure that everything will fit.
Sweep ground cloth. Fold and put in tent bag if it will fit to keep everything together.
