Fire needs the “fire triangle” with three elements: heat, air, and fuel.
Common structures include:
Teepee: three free-standing pieces of wood
Log Cabin: 4-sided structure continuing to build up in layers
Platform: largest logs on bottom and smallest wood on top
Leave a space between the 2nd and 3rd layers of the log cabin or platform fire or leave one wide space between 2 upright pieces of the teepee. This space is where to light the fire with your match and give the fire air to start burning.
Place a handful of tinder in the center of your structure.
Strike the match close to the wood and close to the space left in the structure. Insert the lighted match into the space provided and light the tinder. Shield the tinder so it gets just the right amount of breeze to ignite the structure and burn upwards.
