Introduction: Video Networking Marine Reserves
Learn how Fish Forever uses science and facilitates community decision-making to design networks of reserves that are appropriately located, sized, and connected to each other.
Quiz
You can provide printed copies of the quiz or project it on a screen for participants to complete individually or in groups. You can also add an element of competition by setting a time limit.
The following resources will lead participants through an activity to consider ecological, social, and governance factors to choose the ideal placement of a Managed Access + Reserve area.
A step-by-step guide to implement the on-site activity
A set of 4 maps reflecting considerations to design network of MA+Rs
Use the following questions to lead participants in a de-brief of the activity:
Why do we need to protect ALL of the habitats that support the entire life cycle of fish?
What factors do we need to consider in determining which habitats to protect?
Why do we prioritize areas with high connectivity?
What other factors should communities consider when deciding where to place Managed Access and Reserve areas?
Participants can be grouped into pairs or small groups to share and discuss their perspectives. A Padlet Virtual board is available for this activity, accessible by clicking HERE. You can ask participants to share their reflections aloud or to post their thoughts on the board.
