With over 25 years experience in the tertiary education sector, Feifan is well placed to help you through the process of finding and applying for universities in the UK.
We work slightly differently to many study abroad agents in that, though we have working relationships with faculty and management at most UK universities, we deliberately do not have agreements with any university. The simple reason for this is that we want to ensure we avoid any conflict of interest whereby some universities may pay commissions and others may not, creating a bias. Our focus is solely on ensuring you find the best university to match your needs and expectations.
Searching for the Right University
Broadly speaking, there are four main factors to consider when looking at a university in the UK.
Grades - For international students universities will generally look at two things, 1) your academic grades and 2) your IELTS score (if you are from a non-native English speaking country). UCAS converts most academic grades into a standardised points systems that universities can then use to decide whether a student is academically strong enough to take their program.
Courses - Though most international students look at a university's ranking in a league table, it is worth noting that many universities in the UK have particular strengths, such as medicine, economics, sport's science, etc. If you are clear on what you want to study we can provide recommendations of the best universities for that subject area.
Location - Many international students are happy to go wherever the best university available to them is located. However, some have preferences due to factors such as proximity to friends, social life or potential work opportunities. If you have any specific requirements let us know and we can factor them into our recommendations.
Budget - For international students different degrees at different universities have different fees. In addition, the cost of living in the UK varies dramatically, with cities such as London significantly more expensive than others. We can help you estimate costs and ensure you have the right budget for any applications.
UCAS
The University and Colleges Admissions Services (https://www.ucas.com) is the UK's shared admissions service for higher education. Their services provide information, advice, and guidance to facilitate university admissions.
They support 1.5 million students every year to explore entering higher education, employment and apprenticeships and manage almost three million applications, from around 700,000 people each year, for full-time undergraduate courses at over 380 universities and colleges across the UK.
Clearing - If you haven't been accepted by your original choice of university or are applying after 30th June, you will need to go through the UCAS clearing system. For anyone who hasn't experience clearing before it can be an intimidating experience. Fortunately, our University Admissions Team can manage this on your behalf, actively coordinating between you and universities to ensure it is a quick and seamless process.
University Tours
Many of our clients like to visit the UK and some of their prospective universities in the period before they apply. The Feifan University Admissions Team can organise tailored tours for you and your family to any number of cities and universities you would like to see. This often includes staying in the halls of prestigious universities such as Oxford or Cambridge to get a real sense of university life in the UK.
These tours are often combined with a period of language study at a summer camp, visits to famous cultural sites &/or shopping at some of the world-class shopping centres across the country. If you contact us to discuss your plans and ideas we can develop a timetable and budget for you.
