There is a legend of Sugawara Michizane and the Kappa, and the "Kappa no Te" (hand of the Kappa) is carefully preserved as a treasure.
Around the time of the vernal equinox (Mar 21) and the autumnal equinox (Sep 23), a mysterious scene can be seen as the setting sun shines straight through the tower gate from the approach to Tenmangu Shrine.
