The Vesper camp is in peril! Now that the “bounce zones” have been compromised, the main camp is exposed and open to Templar incursions, driven by the Holy Council’s urgent desire to capture both the Fugitives of Evensong and their Vesper allies for questioning. The attacks happened with some frequency over the winter, but were largely hampered by the harsh weather. It seemed that after January, the Templars lost their taste for direct confrontation and are likely delaying further attacks until the Spring thaw, giving the Vespers a small window to rebuild, at least partially. Even so, it is highly unlikely that they will be able to rebuild the layers of defense in place previously. There is also the open question of who betrayed them to the point where the Templars were able to compromise their map table. The talking stick has, as a result, seen frequent use over the winter months.
Over the winter, there have been rumors of food shortages all across Concordance. Though no one is willing to say the word “famine”, many people are already growing concerned about the harvest next year. There are rumors that the low harvest last year was not natural and are vague as to what might have caused it. Various rumors whisper that the Vespers have angered Tamal, or the Vespers have poisoned the Land of Gold and Silver with a terrible ritual, or perhaps the Barons and Baronesses of the Land are using the fear of famine to regain some measure of lost power. The Assembly has been doing all it can to care for those affected by the food shortages. The Assembly has also given some credence to the last bit of rumor as there are several rulers in the Land who have been put under house arrest for unspecified crimes.
In light of the growing divisions, the Assembly has declared a national holiday of unity, “Concordance Day”, to fall on March 30. It will feature a special singing of the Ashensing, “to inspire solidarity and harmony”, with lyrics to be distributed by the church of the Dreaming Goddess. Citizens of Concordance are encouraged to celebrate the holiday by acting in support of others, mending disagreements, and striving for unity.
With Concordance in turmoil and upheaval over the recent revelations from the heretics, the people of Concordance are even more skeptical and worried about who they can trust that won’t betray them and their beliefs. Many have started to rejoin the public singing of the Ashensing again in hopes that truth will reveal itself….
