Evensong LARP

Our Philosophy

Evensong is a game intended for people who enjoy complex plotlines, intensive role playing, and tough, meaningful fights. The person who will get the best experience out of Evensong is someone who attends regularly, is eager to role play and immerse themselves into plots, and who enjoys challenges. While we expect that someone who comes occasionally or even just once can still have an enjoyable time, the Evensong campaign is intended as a series of episodes in a continuing plotline, thus it will be more meaningful to a person who can participate regularly.

Evensong Players are more likely to succeed if they work together and share information. This does not mean the staff expects all Players to get along at all times, agree on every decision, and be friends; in fact, there will likely be choices available over the course of the campaign that engender significant and emotional debate and outright disagreement. But it is our hope that the primary obstacles the Players face will be external challenges and enemies, not one another.

Evensong Players will find that they will have to be mindful of when and where they use their resources. Players should not expect that they will have full use of all skills and abilities at all times.

Evensong Players should expect to encounter certain situations over the course of the campaign that they may simply not be able to resolve in the manner they would like. This does not mean they have failed as Players; it simply means their characters will have to prepare better, keep trying, and/or find another way to achieve their goal. Remember that many of our most beloved stories include periods where the main characters experience major setbacks and all seems lost.

Evensong Players should expect to drive plot through their choices and actions, by weaving their own personal stories into the overarching tapestry of the campaign plot. We consider Evensong to be an exercise in collaborative storytelling, which means that we hope both the Players and Staff can work together to create a cohesive and engaging story. Evensong Players may certainly have personal goals, but we encourage our Players to fit these goals to the campaign. Character Histories at Evensong will be rigorously reviewed and may be altered (with notification) for consistency.

Evensong is a ROLE PLAY driven game. While the skills you take will give you abilities to fight enemies, they will NOT provide you all that you need to achieve your goals. Combat will be a part of many Evensong plots, but it will be equally important for you to talk to characters to learn information, piece together mysteries, find out how to manipulate politics, and so on. These aspects of the game are not necessarily reflected by in game skills, but they will be VITALLY important.

We know that many players enjoy the opportunity to look special and be cool and unique at a LARP. Our philosophy at Evensong is that the best way you can find a unique way to fit in is through role playing: building relationships with NPCs (and your fellow players), asking questions, learning secrets, pursuing plots and gathering information.

Lastly, we recognize that not every game is ideal for every Player. There may be some Players who are looking for a particular type of LARPing experience that Evensong is simply not intended to provide. We hope that those Players will find one of the many, many other fine LARPs out there that can provide the experience they are looking for!
