GDYNIA 2018

How was it?

Gdynia for a good start

Time passes quickly! Can you imagine the final year of our project has just started? We met in Gdynia for a good start of this year cooperation.

As there are new participants and teachers involved in the project we needed to get to know more about ourselves and about the countries we are from. We met in Zespół Szkół Chłodniczych I Elektronicznych in Gdynia with our partners from RBZ Technik, Kiel, Germany and VAMIA, Vassa, Finland. The projects’ participants had prepared very professional presentations at home. These presentations showed a lot of information about themselves, their schools and educational systems, but also interesting facts about the place they live in with countries’ characteristics including national stereotypes.

Brainstorming new ideas

After the introduction, new project ideas were gathered in respective country groups. To make them up, we had to take into account many factors e.g. skills, technical abilities, price, and practical utility. Having written some ideas and key words on a board, the participants decided to concentrate on creating some gaming projects. Then, they had to invent one project idea for their country group, which is going to be accomplished during this year. The group members had to think over everything again and consult their ideas with their teachers to be sure they are going to perform the chosen task.

Games projects

Each group is to do their own project of games. So the Germans decided on constructing electronic battleship game, the Finns want to build a game steered by assembly arm and the Poles are going to make a games console. The idea is that all the projects are to be used later during breaks at schools. The individual groups projects were assessed and everybody knows what is needed to perform the tasks including the preliminary assessment of cost of the projects with final cost known after a material list with prices have been prepared.

Socialising

During the five-day stay all participants had the opportunity to discuss and confront the project ideas with each other. The use of English was natural choice and the atmosphere became more and more friendly. The participants sightsaw Gdynia, admired Gdańsk skyline and Sopot seaside. In Toruń all group visited very interesting Mars base exhibition and observed the map of the space with stars and planets in Planetarium. They also learnt about different methods of preparing the gingerbread, Toruń specialty, using simple methods, but also, the machines. They also played bowling together in mixed and country groups, which gave a chance to see individual skills and groups’ spirit in this sport competition.

Obviously, everyday Polish cuisine dishes were tasted. That was a good time to share our experience and exchange opinions.

The next project meeting will take place in Vassa, Finland in January. We are looking forward to seeing each other and to cooperating again.
