VAASA 2017

Program

Vaasa 2017

How was it?

The first international meeting for EURICT project 2017/2018 took place in Vaasa (Finland). Three partner schools – RBZ Technik Kiel, Germany, VAMIA from Vaasa and ZSChiE from Gdynia, Poland sent their representative groups of students and teachers to plan the program of meetings and decide about the technical part of the project works this school year.

During a five-day stay at the VAMIA school in Vaasa, students had the opportunity to get acquainted not only with the daily work of the host school and the Finnish educational system. The hosts also took care of the technical side of the project and organized workshops in the national theatre, where behind the scenes, experts serving lighting and sound systems explained in detail and demonstrated the operation of equipment necessary to handle theatre performances and musicals.

The visit turned out to be extremely important and was a good inspiration for the students whose task is to design and construct a system of remote control lights to be used during school events.

In addition, Finnish teachers and students presented the flavors of Finland during a meal in a restaurant of the hotel and catering department of VAMIA. We had the opportunity to try reindeer stew and other Finnish dishes. The hosts presented one of the favourite Finnish outdoor activities - Frisbeegolf - a sensational game integrating the group. We were also introduced the natural attractions of the Gulf of Bothnia - the Kvarken archipelago - an extraordinary place on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

The next project meeting will take place in February in Gdynia. We hope that the international group will consider staying at ZSChiE in Gdynia, Poland equally successful.

Students' Comments

The school in Vaasa, Finland was the most impressive for me. I liked all the workshops equipped with tools and the latest machines and modern technology for various professions. It gives the students great opportunity to study their vocational subjects.”

Piotr, Gdynia, Poland

“The thing I liked the most in Vaasa was the chance to play frisbeegolf. It was something new for me – a combination of golf and frisbee that anybody can play in public parks. We were divided into a few international teams and we had a lot of fun cooperating and integrating,”

Kamil, Gdynia, Poland

“In Vaasa I liked two things. One was the school itself with its amazing equipment for the students and the other was the trip to Kvarken Archipelago. We could see an amazing view from the wooden tower.

The traditional Finnish food was really delicious and something new for us.”

Mateusz, Gdynia, Poland

“I think a very interesting part of our stay in Vaasa was the electronics workshop with the refugees. We were working together to make some electronic circuits. For some of them it was the first chance to solder iron.”

Karol, Gdynia, Poland
