Impressions from the perspective of the participating Finnish students:
Presentations
First day of the meeting in Kiel (Tuesday) we arrived to “RBZ Technik” school by taxi. Everybody had their project work with them almost ready. Everyone continued finishing their projects and exchanging ideas of the final result. After working with the project everybody had to do a final presentation of the project which was presented in the auditorium with teachers and classes of the RBZ in attendance.
The moment of the truth
Every pupil and teacher gathered in the auditorium and prepared their final work for the show.
The Polish group had finished their magnificent moving head combination but they had only one moving head with them for the show.
The German group had their amazing joystick controlled moving head which was well finished.
The Finnish group had their moving head which was controlled by PC program and smartphone app.
Everything went well even though we had a slight problem with our PC program. Everybody felt quite releaved after all. We cleaned up the place after lunch and headed to next place.
Tasks
The task was to have our project completed. We started the project when the polish and german groups came to Finland and then we had to tell the teachers how are we gonna do and manage with our own project. We started working on it right away.
In February we came to Poland and we had to share our knowledge and what we had done the past time. We needed to present our project to another project students and how far we had done it.
When we came to Germany in April we had our project almost finished but we hadn’t done proper testing with it and then we had to make the last presentation of all we had accomplished.
We think that one of the best thing we’ve learned in this brilliant project was that we got to improve our “social skills” in English too.
Presenting projects in English was probably a new type of experience for all of us.
Fantastic harbour city of Kiel
Everyone had their prejudices before we arrived but we were quite surprised of the city’s old and beautiful buildings and the look of Kiel Canal. The streets were very clean and everything was well organized.
It was amazingly warm in Kiel. It was really beautiful to see flowers blossom and trees and grass already turned into green when in Finland it was just above 5 degrees combined with dark and wet weather.
Kiel had huge amount of military vessels what many of us haven’t seen before so it was very cool and surprising sight.
The old and traditional German houses brought a beautiful and extra-ordinary look for the city (mostly in the area of Laboe).
We think that the best part of the whole program in Germany was the “ferry to the Laboe”. Long beaches and warm weather. What could any Finnish want to have more than anything when it’s so cold in Finland at the time?
The theater of Kiel were a few people of the team worked in was constructed well and it was nice to see that the employees made their props by themselves.
“Traum Gmbh” was weird looking club that one of the German team guy worked in. They had different kind of cool themes for each week. The place even included a movie theater and a restaurant in the same building!
After the long and exhausting week everyone was tired and the Polish and Finnish groups headed back to their homes. Everybody felt a bit homesick but after all we still feel like coming back to Kiel and maybe to even study there someday.
