„Noni!“- On Monday 6 February 2017 the German participants of the Erasmus+ project (four trainee students of the Deutsche Telekom AG, their training supervisor and three teachers of the RBZ-Technik) began their trip north to once again meet other students from Poland and Finland.
Surprisingly, after critically observing the meteorological conditions in Finland, the temperatures were not really lower than those in Germany (only 300km south of the Arctic Circle!). Nevertheless, this circumstance changed immediately in the night after the arrival: the temperatures fell to almost 20°C below zero which resulted in the Baltic Sea being frozen and accessible for pedestrians the next morning. The view of the sun-flooded, frozen Finish landscape was breathtakingly beautiful.
After the arrival at the Finnish school 'Vamia', the participants began working on the project of building and assembling a model boat. The previously bought parts were checked for compatibility and, if needed, alternatives were brought up.
The group visited the metal workshops and the department for electrical engineering. For more than three years the students train in their profession in the well-equipped school in full-time. One of the most impressive examples of the work done here are the houses being built interdisciplinarily which are then finally sold on the real estate market.
In addition to visiting the Finnish location of ABB-Motor, who build electrical engines in basically every possible size, we got a deep insight into the Finish culture: eating reindeer, having a barbecue outside at 30°C below zero, ice-bathing and, most important, going to the sauna everywhere – even in the school!
Last but not least : the crash-course of the Finish language the Polish and German students took. „Noni“ is a universal word for every possible life-situation. The emphasis of the word makes the difference!
Noni… it was a great meeting in the North!
