AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT:
As a student plumber, demonstrate your practical skills by installing a basic residential water supply or drainage system, such as connecting PVC pipes to a sink or setting up a simple faucet with proper fittings. You will be assessed on your ability to read and follow a plumbing diagram, measure and cut pipes accurately, apply sealants correctly, and ensure leak-free connections. Safety practices, tool handling, and cleanliness of the work area will also be evaluated. After completing the task, provide a short reflection on the steps you followed, challenges encountered, and how you ensured the system worked properly. This task is designed to reflect real-world plumbing situations and test both your technical ability and problem-solving skills.
OVERVIEW:
Plumbing is the work of putting together and fixing pipes that carry water in and out of homes and buildings. Plumbers make sure clean water comes out of faucets and that dirty water goes down the drain safely. They use tools to cut, connect, and seal pipes and must follow safety rules to prevent leaks or damage. Learning plumbing helps students understand how water systems work and gives them useful hands-on skills for real-life situations.
REFLECTION:
As a student learning plumbing, I found the experience both challenging and rewarding. At first, I struggled with understanding how the pipes fit together and how to use the tools properly, but with guidance and practice, I improved. I learned how important it is to measure accurately, seal connections well, and always follow safety procedures. It felt good to see water flow correctly through the system I built. This hands-on activity taught me valuable skills and gave me confidence in solving real-life problems using what I’ve learned in class.
