BALTIMORE EESTI ORGANISATSIOONIDE - BÜLLETÄÄN NR. 502 LII AASTAKÄIK Sügis 2016

USA Korp! Indla Jaanipäev Charlottesville, Virginias, 4-5. juunil 2016

Juuni teisel nädalavahetusel said 12 korp! Indla õde taaskord kokku Charlottesville’is, vil! Tiina Page’i ja

vil!

õhtusöök ning jaanipäeva tähistamine lõkke-tule ääres tähistaeva all, vil! Anu Oinas ja vil! Tiina Page kitarrimängu

saatel jätkus laulu hilise õhtu-tunnini.

Pühapäev algas maitsva hommikusöögiga ning päädis jalutuskäiguga Rivanna jõe ääres. Peale jalutuskäiku,

kõhud olid tühjad ja maitsev lõunasöök

ootas vil! Kersti Kõlu kodus.  Lühikene vestlemine järgnes ja oligi seejärel aeg tagasiteele Washingtoni asuda

kolmes autos.

Suur suur tänu vil! Kersti Kõlule, vil! Tiina Page’ile ning Mai Kibenale meie vastuvõtmise eest.  Suvele sai

imekena algus tehtud ning loodetavasti

kohtume jälle aasta pärast.

Vivat! Crescat! Floreat!

“Pillerkaar” teatab

Pillerkaar danced at the Estonian Embassy Open House Day on May 14, 2016

Over the past ten years, the European Union Embassies’ Open House Day has become a cultural highlight

in Washington, DC, attracting tens of thou-sands of would-be-diplomats from near and far, eager to step inside the

mysterious buildings where diplo-mats from the 28 EU countries make history.  As for the throngs who waited

patiently in line to enter the Estonian Embassy, Pillerkaar gave all a foretaste of the grace and fun of the culture that

awaited inside.  With just a few feet separating the dancers from the audience, it was impossible for those watching

not to get carried away by the joyous melodies and dancers’ infectious smiles. So dozens of diplomats-for-a-day

became dancers-for-a-day as they joined Pillerkaar in twirling and waltzing outside the embassy.  Hundreds more

onlookers of all ages and nationalities, impress-sed by the beauty of the dancers’ national dress, posed for pictures

with the dancers.  And Pillerkaar danced for hours, sacrificing heels to the brick slope, stop-ping only when the

winds of the oncoming storm forced them to halt because ...

Elu rõõmuta ei püsi.

Häälege keeled, hõisake meeled,

tantsude viisid te veerege!

(Estonian old saying)

(Life without joy does not persevere.

Let voices sound, let spirits lift,

Dance melodies let roll!)

Pillerkaar danced at the NATO Festival

Pillerkaar, Estonian Folk Dancers of the Washington, DC Metro Area danced again at the annual NATO

Festival in Norfolk, Virginia on 23 April 2016.  Participating in the festival parade, Pillerkaar dancers displayed a

variety of colorful  traditional national dress from multiple areas of Esto-nia and proudly represented their beloved

country of their forefathers at Norfolk’s annual NATO Festival.

The thousands watching the Grand NATO Parade clapped for the floats of each NATO nation as well as the

many marching bands and other parade participants.  But one of the biggest crowd favorites was the Estonian float,

festooned with billowing blue, black, and white flags, and a life-size village swing.  Onlookers cheered the

seemingly tireless dancers who performed next to the float and the five swingers in folk dress who waved Estonian

flags as they bobbed precariously back and forth on the moving float.

After the Grand NATO Parade, hundreds of spectators watched performances by various groups and visited

booths of each country.  Pillerkaar began its half-hour performance with the fast-paced ”Iga-vene labajalg” (Eternal

Flat-footed Waltz) and ”Kan-ga kudumine” (Knitting Fabric) followed by waltzes -- ”Külavalss” (Village Waltz)

and ”Meremeeste valss” (The Seaman Waltz) and Arvo Pärt’s wistful “Ukaru Valss/Usalda” (Trusting Waltz).  The

crowd was riveted by Lauri Tankler, who coped with one, then two, then four women fighting over him in

“Jooksupolka” (Running Polka).  The men then cavorted with pipes in ”Piibumeestritants” (Pipe-maker Dance),

followed by the crowd-pleasing  "Tuljak" (Wedding Dance), with some audience members singing along.

Pillerkaar then invited onlookers to join them in ”Perekonnavalss” (Family Waltz) for a captivating conclusion to its

repertoire.

Informal dancing at Jaanipäev, in Maryland, went fabulously and Pillerkaar performed again!

The dances performed were:  Jooksupolka, Meremeeste valss, and Kunglapolka (a vigorous dance

choreographed by Toomas Metsala of the Toronto folk dance group called “Kungla”).

Ending the dance session all participated in the dance called 1-2-3-4-5-6-7!

tantsimine - Washingtoni Eesti Kooli lapsed ja

rahvatantsrühm Pillerkaar vihtusid rahvatantsu

seekord koos. Vabariigi aastapäeva koosviibimine

toimus Läti majas, Rockville-s, Marylandis.  Pealt-

Eesti koolilapsed:  Mona Bouy-

Pillerkaar performed at the Windmills Inter-
