The competent teacher builds and maintains collaborative relationships to foster cognitive, linguistic, physical, and social and emotional development. This teacher works as a team member with professional colleagues, students, parents or guardians, and community members.
I have constructed a lesson plan for my student teaching experience 2023, in collaboration with me cooperating teacher. This artifact is a lesson for a day, the continuance of Multiplying Rational Expressions. This artifact contains the skills that the students need to continue to succeed in Unit 6-Rational Expressions. This artifact was created for the purpose of continuing to support and teach the skills needed to succeed in this unit alongside with the help of my cooperating teacher.
Creating this lesson plan for my daily lesson, with the help of my cooperating teacher was extremely helpful. As it states in the Knowledge Indicator 8-G, " understands the various models of co-teaching and procedures for implementing them across the curriculum,” I was able to understand that co-teaching was not just transitioning the lesson back and forth with my cooperating teacher in the classroom but rather also working together to build a lesson plan together that aligns with the curriculum of the school—co-planning is part of co-teaching. As Performance Indicator 8-N states, “uses effective co-planning and co-teaching techniques to deliver instruction to each student,” during the construction of this lesson plan I was able to converse with my cooperating teacher of which ways will be best to deliver this content to the students and which is the best tool to assess my students right after. We agreed by deciding and talking about why our choices worked for every student needs. After we constructed this lesson together, we were happy to know that the results after the individual diagnostic assessment proved excellent results; and we were able to plan and deliver an effective instruction using.
In the creation of this lesson plan, it helped me grow as a professional educator in being able to collaborate with my cooperating teacher, because it gave me the experience to be able to work with other teachers whenever its possible or required. The advantage of being able to collaborate with teachers is that they may have so much experience and tricks to help us new teachers become better in our field. As we planned this lesson it helped me see how every lesson needs to be put together and what type of considerations to have over the student’s needs and ourselves. As I become a future teacher, I believe that we learn best when there is someone next to you to guide you in the best teaching practices, being able to work as a team member inside my own classroom brings the best of me emotionally.
I have created this excel sheet that was used to keep track of family communication and data during student teaching 2023. This artifact is a communication tool that I used to write notes about any type of communication I had with parents of my students and notes of educational/behavior plans to continue to support the students. This artifact contains positive and negative communication notes along with the dates that parents and I have arranged for updates of their child progress. This artifact was created for the purpose of continuing to support student’s educational plans and being able to collaborate with their parents in seeking guidance and solutions to their education.
Creating this excel sheet for my classrooms, gave me the advantage to target students that need educational support. As it states in the Knowledge Indicator 8-D, "understands the benefits, barriers, and techniques involved in parent and family collaborations, “this sheet was a way to keep me on track with being able to see which parents I did have a relationship and which parents were not involve in their child’s education. I was able to understand that if I never received a call back or email, this sheet reminded me to take the extra steps to make sure I was able to communicate with that specific parent alongside in building a relationship where we can work together to help their child. As Performance Indicator 8-Q states, “establishes respectful and productive relationships with parents and guardians…,” As I can communicate with parents about their students’ progress, it helps me understand and know that I have established a relationship with them, and it shows me that I am able to collaborate with them when ever is needed. In my Excel sheet it shows with red and green highlighted boxes of who I do have a trusted relationship and who I don’t. This tool is helpful especially for new year teachers like me.
In the creation of this Excel sheet, it helped me grow as a professional educator in being able to collaborate with my student’s families because it gave me the opportunity to learn more about their culture or environment at home alongside with helping our student together. The advantage of being able to collaborate with their parents or guardian it helps me understand the roots where students are coming from or what is happening at home that maybe affecting the students focus. Being able to converse with parents make me feel that I am doing job correctly because it means that we are all on the same page. It also means that I can build a relationship to be able to include them in any ideas that parents might want to give me to implement into my classroom.
