The competent teacher structures a safe and healthy learning environment that facilitates cultural and linguistic responsiveness, emotional well-being, self-efficacy, positive social interaction, mutual respect, active engagement, academic risk-taking, self-motivation, and personal goal-setting.
I have constructed this Class website for students and parents to have as a resource during the school year. This artifact is a website that can be access at all times of the day for parents and students to see, and they can send me messages through the website when they have concerns or have any questions. This artifact contains: my class expectations, who I am, what my I believe learning is, and other great resources for students and parents to access, it was created as my first year of teaching in a school. As it states in the Performance Indicator 4-I, "creates a safe and healthy environment that maximizes student learning;" in this website parents will be able to explore and see how I constructed a safe and learning environment.
Creating this Class Website, it helps students understand the meaning of the expectations that I require in order to achieve their academic goals in my classroom, as it states in the Knowledge Indicator 4-A, "understands principles of and strategies for effective classroom and behavior management;". Students are able to explore the different links that I have created in order for them to understand, as in states in the Performance Indicator 4-J,"creates clear expectations and procedures for communication and behavior and a physical setting conducive to achieving classroom goals;" In addition, students also get to see how they will be working all together with a diverse classroom to make the environment more comfortable for each one, as it states in the Knowledge Indicator 4-B "understands how individuals influence groups and how groups function in society;" As all students will be aware of the website, this will help me get them updated and remind them of all my ideas and expectations for their learning environment. It is easy to access and it is clear to be used by the student and parents, all information is provided and there are links for them to download and print for their references as it states in the Performance Indicator 4-K, " uses strategies to create a smoothly functioning learning community in which students assume responsibility for themselves and one another, participate in decision-making, work collaboratively and independently, use appropriate technology, and engage in purposeful learning activities."
In the creation of this Website, it helped me grow as a professional educator in creating such a tool for students and parents to enjoy and use. I learned that by creating this was a start to plan briefly over my future real classroom, this is similar to what it would actually look like for my first year class. It consisted of planning , and knowing your own ideas and expectations for the students and being able to construct it properly and touching on every point needed. Not only did I created a website, but I also created an environment where student and parent can be involve and can communicate with one another. Also, I am able to be knowledgeable on how to create a site using technology and taught my-self various new technology tools, and have the opportunity to teach my future students how to create one as well.
CLASS ENVIRONMENT
This artifact contains four pictures that are distinct to my classroom areas and student’s needs and where part of my student teaching 2023 classroom. In these pictures you will find organized areas where students keep their workbooks and absent files folder, alongside student’s available resources to use during my class. This artifact was presented for purpose to make an easy access to success.
Creating these special areas inside my classroom, helped students understand the meaning of the expectations that I require to achieve in their academic goals. As it states in the Performance Indicator 4-M, "organizes, allocates, and manages time, materials, technology, and physical space to provide active and equitable engagement of students in productive learning activities”, by being able to organize areas where students will be spending a minute to gather themselves and prepare for class is better than not utilizing our time effectively during our of learning time rather than looking for a colored pencil or calculator. Being able to have the technology and materials ready for them can help them focus better on the lesson versus thinking if they have the tools necessary for them to soar inside my classroom. As I created this artifact, I was able to feel and live inside my classroom and understand that what my students need to do their classwork. As knowledge indicator 4-E, “knows how to assess the instructional environment to determine how best to meet each student’s individual needs,” while I prepare my lesson daily, I make sure that I write on the board what things they will need for the class, and as I write a “What will you need today” students get ready and gather their needed materials for the period, not also do they have every material they will ever need inside my classroom available, but I also make sure that every student has a cubby/folder where as they are absent then each student will know where to get their missed guided notes to do for the next day.
In the creation of these areas inside my classroom, it helped me grow as a professional educator in being able to fulfill my students needs and at the same time keeping both the students and I organized. Being able to assure my students success, shows that I will make sure that each students get an opportunity to soar and learn without any worries about their resources needed, or what did they missed while they were absent.
