San Andreas has no laws in place regarding firearm sales, and refers to federal regulations. Federal regulations require that no individual under the age of 18 may purchase or possess a rifle or shotgun; no individual under the age of 21 may purchase a pistol, or purchase ammunition. Sales from an authorized firearms dealer (such as AmmuNation) require a federal background check. Private sales do not require a background check, but must adhere to federal sales regulations.
Sales of firearms of any kind to a convicted felon or restricted individual is a felony under Section 9 Subsection 6 of the San Andreas State Penal System.
Firearms are not required to be registered unless the gun is a legally purchased automatic firearm requiring a notice of federal approval & NFA tax stamp.

San Andreas has no laws in place regarding firearm restrictions that other states may have, such as limitations on magazine capacity or ergonomics, and refers to federal regulations. Federal regulations require that any rifle must have an attached stock, and the barrel must exceed 16" or more in length. A pistol is defined as any stockless firearm designed to be held and fired with one hand.
All firearms are required to be semi-automatic, or fire using a function that is not automatic. Any modifications to turn a semi-automatic firearm into an automatic firearm is strictly prohibited. Automatic firearms may be legally obtained through an NFA dealer with a Federal Firearms License and require federal permission, as well as a Class III NFA tax stamp. Automatic firearms manufactured before 1986 do not require federal permission or a tax stamp.
Suppressors are legal but require registration with State of San Andreas and a background check prior to ownership.

According to San Andreas state law, you are not allowed to transport, carry, or brandish a firearm. Individuals in possession of firearms, regardless of if they have an Open Carry Permit or Concealed Carry (CCW) permit may not bring their firearm into state or federal buildings, or any building with an established notice that firearms are not allowed on the property.
When it comes to discharging a firearm (such as for target practice, hunting, etc.) in Blaine County, different towns have different ordinances in effect. Make sure you're aware of your town's regulations.
Different statues and regulations apply to rural regions and state/national parks, including the Senora Desert region and Chiliad State Wilderness. If you're a hunter, check with your local game warden for rules and regulations regarding firearms use in those areas.

- Harmony Township: Firearms may be discharged on private property with consent from the owner.
- Chiliad: No firearms may be discharged within town limits unless in self defense.

Yes, San Andreas is a Constitutional Carry state as of 2/12/2025. Firearm owners are required to obtain a valid Open Carry (OCW) permit or Concealed Carry (CCW) permit to carry rifles, long guns, or specially permitted automatic firearms outside of their property. Firearm owners with a valid permit may store their weapon in a vehicle. Handguns are exempt from requiring a permit. However, it is a misdemeanor to carry a firearm on your person or in your vehicle on state or federal property.
Firearm owners may not conceal non-handgun firearms on their person or within reach in their vehicle without a valid CCW permit.
San Andreas IS a Duty To Inform state under Section 9 Subsection 5 of the San Andreas State Penal Code. Anyone with a firearm on the person or in their vehicle must disclose to law enforcement that a firearm is present. Failure to inform is a misdemeanor offense.

Yes, San Andreas enforces "no duty to retreat" i.e. a person may use deadly force in self-defense without a duty to retreat if they are lawfully present and reasonably believe the use of force was necessary to protect themselves or others from bodily harm or death. The law is intended to reduce barriers to self-defense and deter criminal victimization.
Deputies of the Blaine County Sheriff's Office are trained to detain individuals who may have committed a crime or present a possible threat, including an individual who may have used deadly force in self-defense. This is standard protocol for the safety of our deputies. However, if an individual can prove that they used force in self-defense, they will not be arrested or criminally charged unless other crimes were also committed.

Anyone holding a valid OCW or CCW permit who commits a felony will have their weapons permit rescinded permanently. Any convicted felons with firearms previously registered to them are liable for illegal possession, and may be subject to applicable search warrants to remove said firearms from possession.
If you have ever been prohibited from having a weapon due to mental competency or being hospitalized against your will, you must provide court documentation granting relief for disability.

- Answer application questions presented by the deputy including demonstrating a valid reason for obtaining a CCW
- Pass a criminal background check and mental competency check
- Demonstrate knowledge of weapon handling and safety
- Pay the non-refundable fee (cash only)
- $500 for a new CCW
- $150 for CCW renewal
