I am able to localize national and international news stories, as well as take a deep dive on complex and sensitive issues. My communication and interpersonal skills allow me to form connections with key sources and get to the bottom of intricate stories.
I have written breaking news, feature, sports, arts and life and opinion pieces thus far. In the fall 2022 semester, The Northerner took the reins on the university's unexpected $18.7 million budget deficit issue and the sudden departure of the president.
I have been able to secure exclusive interviews with the university president, chief financial officer, provost, vice president, chair of Board of Regents, Faculty Senate president and more.
At the 2024 Kentucky Press Association Awards, our team at The Northerner came home with 14 awards and a third place finish in General Excellence.
I was honored with:
Jon Fleischaker Freedom of Information Award
Best Lede-- first place
Best Breaking News Coverage-- second place
Best Enterprise or Analytical Story-- second place
Best Investigative Story or Series-- second place
Best On-going/Extended Coverage Story-- second place
Best Business/Agribusiness Story-- third place

At my first ever Kentucky Press Association Awards, I went home with eight awards.
