Watch the documentary here!
After becoming editor-in-chief of The Northerner, one of my biggest goals was to get more experience behind and in front of the camera.
That goal soon turned into producing a 25-minute documentary about the history of Newport, Ky as the original "Sin City."
Over the course of 20 days, my video editor and I conducted four interviews, did endless research, looked through archived photos and newspapers and recorded b-roll and stand-ups. I structured and edited the entire documentary from start to finish, pulling late nights to ensure it would be ready to publish by our October deadline.
We held one interview on the rooftop of a Covington apartment. While we had to adjust with the street noise and sunlight, it made for a beautiful shot.
This multimedia package featured a 25-minute documentary to watch, a written article to read and a recorded version of the article to listen to.
My video editor and I traveled around Newport and recorded stand-ups to help elevate the documentary.
We shot the opening and closing of the documentary on a picturesque street corner in Newport, giving audiences a bookend to see at the beginning and end.
