RURAL JOURNALISM
I pitched this story as my final internship project at KET. I was able to connect with the University of Kentucky's director for the Institute of Rural Journalism and find Victoria, an editor of a local rural newspaper in LaRue County, Ky.
Getting to know Victoria and Allison and also getting to visit Hodgenville was a memory I'll treasure, and this story was able to shine a light on the importance of rural journalism.
NKU INTERNSHIP PROGRAM AT STATE SENATE
Using my NKU connections, I was able to pitch and execute this story about an internship program with the Kentucky State Senate. We were able to go visit the intern and senator at the Capitol building in Frankfort to tell their story.
3D PRINTING, SEWING, LASER CUTTING AND MORE PART OF STEELY LIBRARY'S MAKERSPACE
Using stand-ups and creative b-roll, this news package was published online for The Northerner and informed students of the resources available in the campus library's "Makerspace."
GROUNDBREAKING OF NKU'S HERRMANN SCIENCE CENTER EXPANSION
An $86 million expansion project was the focus of this news package, which was shared online and via Instagram. The university president and interim dean spoke to the changes that will add more than 85,000 square feet to the existing building.
NASA SOLAR ECLIPSE PRESS CONFERENCE
Leading up to the historic total solar eclipse, NASA held a press conference discussing safety tips and the significance of the event. I tuned into the press conference online and then edited together the most important sound bites for this informative package.
DIRECT ADMITTANCE PROGRAM AT NKU
On a day when the Kentucky Edition newscast at KET was in need of a story to fill a gap, I pitched and interviewed for this package on the "Direct Admit" program started at NKU. The university was the first in the state to begin a program like this that immediately accepts high school seniors with a certain GPA.
My knowledge of the region and university connections helped me secure this interview and fully edit the package all within a couple hours.
SURVIVORS UNION OF THE BLUEGRASS RESEARCH GROUP
This was my first fully-edited package I completed during my internship at KET. It was a challenge to sift through the interview and fully explain such a complex research group, but it gave me great experience and an excellent starting point.
