Adiós Nueva York, Hola Santo Domingo
Adiós Nueva York, Hola Santo Domingo
Our early morning began at 5:00am departure from EHS. Although everyone was tired, our excitement was fueling us! We loaded our bags on the bus and left for JFK. Luckily, there was no traffic on the way there and we arrived with plenty of time. The JetBlue crew members were the real MVPs! They got our whole group through quickly and efficiently. We all passed through security, got some food and coffee and boarded the plane.
The flight was very smooth and after a movie and some naps, we made it to Santo Domingo! Even though it was Friday the 13th, luck was on our side. We breezed right through customs in the airport and met Luis, our driver, outside in the warm humid weather (much better than NY).
We got on the bus and went straight to our hotel. Everyone had some time to clean up, change and explore a bit before our first group dinner.
We met up in the lobby at 7pm and walked over to Imperial Restaurant. It was a great feeling to be able to sit down and enjoy our first official meal together.
After dinner, we all took a walk to a beautiful lookout point in the zona colonial. It was a great opportunity to take some pictures, enjoy a street art exhibit and take in some of the warm, fresh, Dominican air. Along the way, some people got some ice cream and snacks. After spending some time at the lookout point, we headed back to our hotel and called it a night. We have some long days ahead of us coming up and everyone needs to make sure that they are well rested!
Tomorrow we have our walking tour of the colonial zone, our first official scavenger hunt and our KahKow chocolate making experience. It's going to be fun! Stay tuned for more updates, pictures and videos (as the wifi permits).
