In preparation for our visit to Colegio Padre Emiliano Tardif this year, all of the 4 honors students have been working on a project to create bilingual children's book to be read, alongside their Dominican counterparts, to the kindergarten and first grade students at the school in Santiago. All of the students have done AMAZING work and are excited to share their stories at Colegio Padre Emiliano Tardif. Even though not all of the students are going to the Dominican Republic, they are all invested in this project and are able to share in the excitement of our cultural exchange.
Here are some examples of the digital books. With their original art and the creative stories, you would think that these books were professionally made! Thank you to the Edgemont PTSA, who generously contributed the funds that we needed in order to print these books and bring them to life!
Before taking the books to the Dominican Republic and reading to the younger students at CEPT, all of the 4 honors students got the chance to travel to either Seely or Greenville to read to our own elementary school students! It was amazing to watch all of the high school students engage with the younger students and not just read their books, but also draw them into conversations about the important lessons that each book teaches. All of the 4 honors students took on the role of teacher and after speaking with them, they all expressed how much they enjoyed the experience!
