Friday Flatbreads! 26.02.20

TGIF!

Am I right?!

Bit of a late blog post this week, had a hectic week making lasagne, fishcakes, homemade bhajis, cake and the last meals for the Winter Shelter! I also had another exciting meeting about another venture looking into the realms of calories and macros! Gym buffs watch this space!

I wanted to just upload another quick recipe for this week and focus in on a more intricate recipe for next week and future projects (no spoilers!) I love dipping flatbreads into sauces like curry, pasta sauce, or just making them into quick lunches such as flatbreads topped with poached eggs, chicken, bacon, rocket, tomatoes... yum!

You only need three main ingredients for this, flour, yogurt, salt! The additional ingredients are just added flavour!

Flatbread (makes two flatbreads)

You will need

  • 150g Flour + additional for dusting(we used white for this recipe but try this with different flours if you have them!)
    150g natural/greek yogurt.

  • 1tsp Salt

  • Seasonings - we used dried garlic and corriander but why not try other herbs and spices like chilli flakes, parsley or thyme.

  • Frying pan

  • Rolling pin

Method

  1. Place your flour, yogurt, salt and spices (if using) into a bowl and mix with your hands until a soft dough forms.

  2. Divide your dough into two and dust flour onto your work bench, roll each ball into rough circles around 1cm thick.

  3. Place your frying pan onto a medium/high heat and heat until just starting to smoke (careful of fire alarms, so keep windows open!)

  4. Place one flatbread into your frying pan - leave for 30/40 seconds or until dark spots appear and the underside of the flatbread is cooking. Flip and cook the flatbread for an additonal 20/30 seconds until both sides have started to become golden brown.

  5. Repeat with your other flatbread. Once finished turn off your hob and serve!

Why not...

  1. Make this for breakfast as a fresh substitute for your toast in the morning!

  2. Make this vegan - use coconut or soy yogurt in place of the natural yogurt - coconut yogurt would go great with curries!

  3. Swap pizza night for homemade flatbread night! Make a tomato sauce, top with cheese and whatever toppings you like and bake in the oven after frying your flatbread on both sides.

I hope you enjoy! Let me know if you make this or use this for any other recipes!
