How have our reading strategies changed?

With the simple view of reading, we know that students need to focus on the letter sound relationship. Rather than looking at the picture or thinking what makes sense, the student's strategy should be looking at the letters, saying the sounds, and then blending them together. As students develop, they will need to pay attention to syllable types and affixes as well.
