Helping students to understand how their brains grow and learn enables them to get past the notion that they can't learn. Our brains are set up to continue learning throughout our lives. We do have the ability to change our thinking. We can learn, although it might be at a different rate than our friends. We can grow our intelligence.
Author John Medina is a developmental molecular biologist. One of his research specializations is human brain development. In 2008, his book Brain Rules hit the shelves. There are many great lessons we can learn about how to help our students' brains as well as our own.
