What does it mean to have a growth mindset?

Students with a growth mindset believe that intelligence and success come from hard work, the use of effective strategies, and help from others. To have a growth mindset requires that we frame our language differently than saying, "Wow! You are a smart cookie!" to things like "Look how your hard work paid off!" When we help students to realize that their brains can grow and they can and will get there, it helps their motivation and drive to success. Additionally, students will feel happier and more confident in themselves.
