Fluency is the ability to read smoothly with accuracy, expression, and an appropriate rate. Students need to be able to read fluently both silently and aloud. Fluency is often considered to be the bridge between phonics and comprehension. Once students are able to decode words quickly, their fluency improves. The less time the brain has to spend on decoding and fluency, the more time it can spend on comprehension.
EARS is an acronym that we use to help students remember the attributes of fluency. We even have motions to help them remember!
Practice is extremely important to developing fluency. This section will give you ways to practice with your child.
Often times our children believe we tell them they did well just because they are our child. They think we have on parent goggles. This section will provide specific feedback which will avoid that notion and help your child to continue the good habit they have begun.
Sometimes we would like more than just the books that are available on our shelf. This section will provide you with links to jokes, readers theater, and karaoke!
Fluency Tutor is not a person. Fluency Tutor is a web based program helping students to independently develop their fluency.
