2000年4月,新加坡官方發動了所謂的「說標準英語運動」(Speak Good English Movement,簡稱SGEM),其口號是「說得好、被理解」(Speak Well, Be Understood)。

... A newly appointed chair, "coming in hopeful and ready to shake things up" before she has to "learn the difficulty of trying to make change within the institution."
Pettit also interviewed Oh’s co-star, Jay Duplass, and the show’s co-creator, Amanda Peet, about why they wanted to portray the specific pressures of being a chair — and how an academic department is a "place ripe for comedy, partly because of the intergenerational tension." We rounded up scholars to watch each episode and chat about the big themes, like student outrage, what a humanities education even means these days, and capitulating to pressure from the administration — or not. Readers also shared their opinions on the fictional English professors’ wardrobes and told us what they wear to campus. — Fernanda. Newsletter editor
