FIRST POWER UP featured a retro 8-bit theme where two alliances competed to "defeat the boss" by gaining ownership of large balancing Scales and Switches. Points were primarily scored by placing yellow "Power Cubes" on these scales to tilt them in an alliance's favor, with ownership earning points for every second the scale remained tipped. Alliances could also exchange cubes for "Power Ups" like Levitate, Force, and Boost to gain temporary advantages or bonus points. The match concluded with an endgame where robots climbed a tower attached to the center scale to secure additional points and "Face the Boss."
