Down South Gaming - QAS
Objectives
Restore a HR that is within normal bounds for the person.
Notes
Bear in mind each person's resting ad active HR will be different, and as such, there is no exact Heart Rate that is ideal. Instead, try to keep within range, as below:
(Bradycardia)
Critically Low: <30
Low: 50-30
Normal: 60-100
(Tachycardia)
High: 120-160
Critically High: 160+
This will increase with youth and decrease with age, so keep that in mind.
Treatment:
Medication:
Tachycardia (High HR) can be treated with the use of Amiadarone. Start with small doses then increase until an average heart rate is achieved.
Bradycardia (Low HR) can be treated with the use of Atropine. Start with small doses then increase until an average heart rate is achieved.
Be careful when using these medications, as some pain relief meds can lower and raise the heart rate separately, and as such could cause complications when combined.
Valsalva Maneuver:
The Valsalva maneuver involves lying the patient flat, then lifting their legs so they are above the PT's head (sort of like sitting down at a 90 degree angle). this can sometimes reduce heart rate, but it may not always work, and so should not be relied upon.
