In some cases, the patient may refuse to be treated and/or transported by paramedics. the patient has the right to make decisions about their health. This decision must be made while informed and the patient must have the capability to make decisions. If they do not, or Paramedics believe they have injuries that threaten life, they may be taken involuntarily
The patient must be informed of their condition or likely condition and the risks that come with refusing treatment/transport.
The patient must be free from all influences (drugs, alcohol, family members, etc) in order to make an informed decision.
The patient must be given advice on their condition or likely condition, to help their safety and comfort.
If the patient is all of the above, they may sign a refusal of care form. At this point the paramedics attending are free from any obligation of care and may leave.
