Learning gilding is a process over a period of time. You will make mistakes in the beginning and you will learn from them. It’s been almost 25 years since I have done any gilding. The distance between us is too great and the time it would take is something I can’t do. But I will tell you this, get a book titled ‘Gold Leaf Techniques’ by Raymond J. LeBlanc. It’s how I started to teach myself. Gilding is like a lot of other things. Everyone does it a little different. I can only say that I used German 23k patent gold leaf, and a mixture of Rolco quick and slow sizing for the best results. There is a lot to learn and it will take time to get it right. It’s not within my power or practicality to do so. I don’t mean to sound harsh but it is something that you will have to do on your own. It’s time consuming and very expensive.
