I have a Bumblebee that visits me each year, a small spirit in flight, hovering near, as if from another time and distant place.
Though its life is short, every spring it returns, like a beloved guide from a spirit past, whispering softly, trying to reassure me that all is well, on the other side, that love never truly leaves.
Fun Fact: Bees can recognize human faces, and they do it with a brain about the size of a sesame seed. Instead of memorizing faces the way humans do, bees learn patterns of light and dark — basically breaking your face into a tiny grid of visual data.
Life Span: Bumblebee lifespans vary by role, with workers living for about four weeks, while queens can live for up to one year. Males (drones) live for only a few weeks, dying after mating. The colony itself is annual, with only new queens surviving winter to start new colonies in the spring.
