The Drac Cavall was first discovered by a small stable some many years ago. The first specimen was found completely by accident and captured some time later by a team of determined stable staff. Following his capture, more members of his 'herd' were discovered and gradually brought into the care of the same stable. While the team of horse lovers adored their new found friends, one lingering question haunted all their minds:
Where had these creatures come from?
Their place of origin, while initially a mystery, was finally discovered by some rather startled tourists on a tropical cruise. While on a 'Mystery' cruise outside the Bermuda Triangle guests reported seeing a sort of "ripple" in the air. Unaware of what they were seeing, the cruise quickly returned to the mainland and reported on the anomaly while providing it's latitude and longitude.
Scientists were quick to act and soon confirmed their suspicions. This break in the universe, now referred to as The Rift, was an opening between Earth and another World later referred to as Zei-Lu.
In the weeks that followed, scientists observed for themselves as all manner of things passed through The Rift and into their world. Amongst these things sprang the Drac as well as numerous other monsters many believe to be at fault for the haunting tales surrounding the Triangle itself.
Since then The Rift has come under the control and management of several nations and a peace between the people of Zei-Lu and Earth has been cautiously maintained. While many earth explorers are still looking for ways to visit these exotic lands others can have a taste Zei-lu by importing and owning their own Drac Cavall!
In the early days many people thought that the Drac was much more closely related to horses than they were reptiles but thanks to advanced research and dedicated time we have found that they are more closely related to reptiles and, more importantly, the dragons they resemble. Below are just some of the interesting facts people are just beginning to discover about these amazing creatures:
Life span
Dracs are incredibly resilient animals who have thick skin and iron like bones. It's thought that Dracs are able to live into their hundreds, barring any major illness or health issue. They appear to sexually mature around 5 years old but often don't breed until they at well into the double digits.
Classic or 'Traditional' Mares lay a clutch of eggs rather than bare live young. These clutches range anywhere from 1 to 3 eggs.
Size
Dracs horse like body most closely resembles that of a Marwari horse but unlike their doppelgangers , Dracs can grow to be MUCH larger. The smallest recorded back in Zei-Lu was around 15 hands while the largest on record was 20 hands. Most, however, range between 16 and 17 hands. It's suspected that diet could play a roll in their heights as most stable raised Dracs tend to grow just a bit taller than their wild cousin.
Because of their bulky wings these animals can NOT be stabled like normal horses. They become stressed when contained for long periods of times and it is strongly advised that you don't confine them.
Diet
MEAT >D And LOTS of it!
Anatomy
Dracs most notable feature are their massive, bat like wings. While all can range in size and color they must be at least twice the body length of the horse in order for the animal to maintain flight. Gliding Dracs do exist and typically have smaller, weaker wings. The membrane of the wings connects all the way down the length of the drac until the base of the tail. Because of this saddles are custom made and riders must lay down or crouch over the Drac's back.
Another outstanding feature to the Drac are their horns. The most prominent grow out the back of their skull while others sprout out along their necks and tails. These smaller horns or spikes often differ in number and size. Males typically have more than females.
Dracs also have lines of steel like scales going down the fronts of all four of their legs. These scales will, on occasion, fall off and be replaced. It is much like a snake shedding it's skin. These scales are highly prized by collectors and can be crafted into jewelry and sculptures. However, for the Drac owner, grinding these discarded scales back up into your steeds food can provide him or her with a MAJOR protein boost which helps in their coat and horn growth.
