As mentioned before, Dracs can be obtained by several means one of which being capturing a wild Drac. These wild Dracs are only available through our exploration event. After all, these untamed lands have been left to run wild since the world began! All manner of beast and creature lurk here as explorers press on through the dense landscape.
Players who take part in our exploration event earn loot items with each submission but also have a chance of encountering a wild Drac that they can potentially capture! These encounters are always random and rolled alongside the loot items players earn. The chance of encountering a wild Drac runs about 45% (without the aid of items). The color and temperament of Drac a player may encounter is totally random and will vary from Drac to Drac. While some wild Dracs can be seen in our group folder others you encounter may be described at the time of encounter. If captured, their design will then be uploaded.
Certain regional variants can also be uncovered but players must be in the appropriate location in order to find one.
More in depth details on how these encounters are rolled and how our system works can be read below.
In order for a submission to count towards capturing or even tracking a Wild Drac, the following requirements must be met:
Literature pieces must be at least 400 words long and detail: How are you capturing or tracking the Drac? What is your character doing? Are they setting a harmless trap or maybe just throwing a rope?
Feel free to include details like how you found the drac or if you're hoping to track one down, how you heard about them. Have you encountered them before or heard a rumor from someone else?
Drawn submissions must minimally be a half body image, fully colored with a background of some kind.
Like literature pieces, it should include how you're going to capture the drac and should include the drac in question. Illustrations can also include a story in the description to earn extra potato but is not required.
Wild Dracs will each come with their own difficulty rating when it comes to capturing them. Some may be eager to join your party while others may be less keen on the idea. These levels relate to how high (or low) a player needs to roll via RNG in order to successfully capture one of these dragons. Below, players may read about the different types of Drac they may encounter as well as how best to handle your first interaction so take note!
Docile
Docile Dracs are ones who are laid back, relaxed and surprisingly friendly to our explorers. These are Dracs who, in their first encounter, may be caught rifling through players' supplies or chatting up their already domesticated Drac mounts. They never show aggression and are the easiest to capture. Some (not all) may have been chased from their herds and be sporting injuries or even illness. They are eager to rejoin a herd or may just be very lonely as they have been trying to survive on their own. If a capture should fail, the dragon will remain in the area for 1 more capture attempt before wandering off. They never hold any hard feelings however, perhaps your attempt only failed because something spooked the beast or you're really bad at tying knots?
Timid
Timid Dracs are ones who are ‘appropriately’ cautious when met by explorers. These Dracs will keep their distance and often put on intimidation displays if approached. These include loud barks, stiff body language and the raising of their wings high above their bodies. They will most often be encountered by accident as explorers push through unknown turf and unwittingly through herd territories. Timid Dracs are also susceptible to poachers' traps and will struggle when they realize they're been caught in one. Timid Drac's are quick to panic and should be handled with care. Despite their fearful nature, they will always run away before offering to attack a player.
Formidable
Formidable Dracs are dangerous individuals who want nothing to do with our explorers. Formidable Dracs are aggressive and territorial, not only wanting the player to leave them alone but also wanting them out of their perceived territory. Formidable Dracs will attempt to harm players and their mounts if given the chance, whether that's by kicking, biting or use of flame. These are downright dangerous animals who shouldn't be openly approached. When a capture fails, characters will be vulnerable to injury by these dracs before they leave the area. Formidable Dracs are also highly intelligent, they will not fall for the same trick twice and will remember the smell of your party as well as your mounts.
When players fail to capture the desired Drac, they flee. However all is not lost for players still wishing to capture the beast.
Players have the option of using items such as Ironvine Rope or a Lavish Sirloin to boost their chances of capturing Dracs! What these items do can be read by clicking on the links but, should a player wish to use one of these items they needs to simply list the item in their submission description. All these items are one use items and will be redeemed whether the capture is successful or not.
When a Drac flees, players will be offered to try and track it down immediately after. Our Tracking Mechanic takes over when a Drac runs, allowing for players to re-encounter it if they manage to successfully track it down. When Drac’s flee, mods will offer a set of three options to track the Drac that players may choose from to pursue. The tricky part about this is, depending on the difficulty of the Drac you're seeking, some of these options may lead you to a dead end. If you loose the trail players will enter a cooldown phase where they are always welcome to seek out the Drac again but only after they submit a piece unrelated to tracking.
The number of 'Tracking submissions' required to re-encounter a wild Drac depends on the animals difficulty rating. This system may also be employed to locate a Drac without first encountering it. So in essence, you are allowed to track or search for Wild Dracs your characters have heard rumors about or may track down those who got away from you.
To track a Docile Drac, players will only have to submit one piece detailing how they follow its trail.
If a player is wishing to blindly locate a Docile Drac (IE find one without first encountering it) they will have to detail how they go about finding it. The easiest way to draw our a Docile Drac is to be in the appropriate area and leave out food. Docile Dracs are usually without a herd and often times are very hungry. Food is the best way to locate one but be mindful that some are picky eaters.
Timid Dracs are a little more difficult to track. Timid Dracs require 2 tracking submissions in order for players to find them again. Players run a small risk of loosing the trail of a Timid Drac as only 2 of the 3 options given will keep you on the correct trail.
If a player is wishing to blindly locate a Timid Drac (IE find one without first encountering it) they will have to detail how they go about finding it. Timid dracs are often those already apart of wild herds and thus can be found by following well worn trails and game paths. Scouting these areas for extended times, being stealthy and leaving out an offering are all ways a player can encounter one of these Dracs. Timid Dracs also enjoy offerings of food as they make them feel more at ease when their bellies are full. If they feel safe, Timid Dracs will show themselves.
Formidable Dracs, the most difficult, will also be difficult to track. Three tracking submissions are required to get a chance to catch the beast and only 1 of the 3 options will keep you hot on its trail. These guys are Formidable for a reason after all!
If a player is wishing to blindly locate a Formidable Drac (IE find one without first encountering it) they will have to detail the lengths they go to in order to find it but also how they will remain safe. Formidable Dracs encountered multiple times will learn your party's scent and grow increasingly more hostile to you. Picking up it’s trail and either laying a trap or an offering is a good way to draw out these creatures. Sometimes, Timid Dracs will appear instead of your intended target in which case players are welcome to wait until their quarry arrives. Formidable Dracs are often herd leaders or those seeking to gather one. If you manage to attract other wild dracs, your target is likely close by.
