A teaching internship is the most exciting part of a 4th-year college education student's life. For us, it is not the crucial part we are skipping, but it is a way for me to practice and enhance my skills. Last month I had my internship in VFES, but it was an online internship due to the situation we are facing, which is the pandemic. Despite all the hindrances, I can learn and handle young learners and have experience teaching. But because of the eagerness to have a faceto-face class, it has been implemented. In this week's OJT, we will be deployed to Baybay Central II with our college supervisor. We are excited to observe and teach in a face-to-face setup since we have only experienced an online class setting. In my six weeks of teaching internship and my first week in Baybay, Central II, I was nervous because face-to-face teaching and the online class setting are very different in teaching and learning. But, it was a start to experience what teachers experienced in their teaching journeys. I have my new cooperating teacher. Her advisory class is in Grade 2. For this week, I just observed and assisted her. Since the students are only in the morning, in the afternoon I am helping my cooperating teacher to check the modules of the students, print the modules, and bind them. Based on my observation of how the teacher delivers and teaches her students while the students are listening, I believe that the students will learn. The teaching strategy my cooperating teacher uses is very different from my last cooperating teacher in VFES. They used different methods, but both strategies are very effective for the students to learn. But I have noticed something with the students. Upon observing them, I’ve noticed that the students can’t read fluently, while some can’t read at all. It is a problem created by this pandemic and a problem also for the teachers, as they are teaching back to zero. Some of the supposedly grade 2 students know how to write and read fluently, but as I have observed, not all of them know how to write and read. The learners need more on-hand teaching from the teacher and the parents. Parents may also help the teacher teach their children to learn something new in their home. As a practice teacher, students need teachers to guide and help them learn, and I, a future educator, am willing to guide and help them the best I can, for them to be more knowledgeable. Before I leave the school, I will ensure that every learner will learn something from me.
