This domain is concerned with using assessment data in various ways to inform and improve the teaching and learning process and programs. It is about teachers giving learners the necessary feedback on learning outcomes. This feedback notifies the reporting cycle and allows teachers to choose, organize, and implement effective assessment processes.
Teachers should also use assessment strategies that require students to self-evaluate, which could help them be aware of their strengths and weaknesses to motivate them to set personal learning goals. Based on my internship experience, I used assessment tools to assess my students. In my two teaching demonstrations, both online and actual, I give students assessments and quizzes to evaluate the effectiveness of my teaching and the student learning capability. The evaluation was given to the students with allotted time for them to answer, and afterward, I reviewed the student outputs and recorded their answers after they submitted them. From what I saw from their responses, I can say that they learned a lot from my teaching strategy. Before leaving the classroom, I conducted an exit ticket to know if my students were progressing daily and provide extra help if necessary. The school also conducted a portfolio day during their 3rd quarter, in which parents of the students came to school to see how progressive their children's performance was, the grades of learners, their achievements, etc. As an intern teacher, I was assigned by my cooperating teacher to assist the parents in signing their students’ report cards. Some parents are disappointed because their child has taken low grades, while others are happy with the grades the child has taken. Communication is essential throughout the assessment process. We teachers should keep students, parents, and school leadership informed of their children's progress so that all responsible parties can work together to support the students' learning objectives.
As a teacher, using multiple measures accurately and effectively, teachers must first understand the characteristics, uses benefits, and limitations of the various types of assessments for evaluating how students learn, what they know, and what they can do. Communication is essential throughout the assessment process. We should keep students, parents, and school leadership informed of their progress so that all responsible parties can work together to support the student's learning objectives. Successful teachers should understand the importance of assessment in the educational process. As a result, a diversity of formal and informal assessment techniques should be used to improve the knowledge of their students, allow them to evaluate progress and performance, and then modify teaching and learning based on assessment results.
This internship has provided me with opportunities to hone my skills in developing assessment procedures in a variety of contexts. As a future teachers, I believe we should push ourselves to create assessment methods that are situational and content-specific. We must practice realigning assessment procedures based on the competencies that must be met in a specific area. We also need to understand the nature of the content, whether it is skill development or knowledge-based because the nature of the content will guide us in developing appropriate assessment procedures.
