We hope you got the chance to enjoy our October District events, the District IV Fall Meeting at the Ribault Garden Club and GardenFest at the St. Johns County Extension Office. At the District meeting Dr. Jaret C. Daniels, Ph.D., Director of the McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity at the University of Florida Museum of Natural History presented the topic, “Where have all the butterflies gone?” This is a growing concern, and not only to the National Garden Clubs and our affiliated clubs. The US Fish and Wildlife Service is considering whether to give endangered species status to the iconic Monarch butterfly.

At Gardenfest we enjoyed a day of learning as expert speakers gave talks on gardening, growing from seed, caring for plants, bulbs and orchids and using plants for seasonal yard decorations. Of course, we had the opportunity to mix and mingle with each other and to enjoy the plants and crafts our fellow garden clubs had for sale.
