Creature Feature Boats

By Pi On My Cake

A Slow Moving Boat Dark Ride in the Vein of Pirates of the Caribbean that serves as an homage to the B-Movie Sci-Fi/Horror films of the 50s and 60s!

The Creature Feature Boats see guests taking the lead role in the fictional film, "The Seaside Slime Thing From Beyond the Stars!" Leading to a fun, atmospheric ride through a seaside small town, swamplands, and caves near Surf Swell Beach while trying to save the Damsel and the Scientist from the Slime Creature who came to earth in a meteorite! A simple story with plenty of Davis style gags and goofy homages.

The Facade

Guests enter into the Surf Swell Observatory. There are bits of slime and claw marks around the outside and the surrounding paths. The Observatory is on a slightly raised section of the path slightly on a hill. The area music is played with synth and theremin to add to the sci-fi vibe. There is some lighting features and filming equipment. A large poster announces that they are filming ""The Seaside Slime Thing From Beyond the Stars!" On-Location at Surf Swell Beach today. Made by Creature Features Studios.

Most of the showbuilding for the ride is hidden by the same seaside hills that host the Rebel Coaster.

Queue

The queue is divided into two sections.

The first room is the lobby of the observatory. You can see a few star charts and telescopes and stuff like that. But the main focus of this section is that Creature Feature Studios has set up in their lobby. You can see a craft services table full of snacks, authentic 50s/60s filming equipment with educational descriptions, and fake movie posters for past hits from the studios like "Attack of the 47 Foot Long Feet," "It Came from Below the Beyond," "The Creepy Crawly Crystalized Creatures Creeping Criminally Crushing Critical Craniums," and "Citizen Kane."

Through environmental storytelling it is made clear that guests are going to play the lead roles in this new movie!

Guests then descend down some steps to a lower level (There is an Elevator available for those with mobility issues). This transition to the basement marks the transition into the world of the movie.

This room is a secret lab hidden below the observatory. Glowing, technicolor chemicals in oddly shaped beakers. Interesting blobs of goo. Stuff sparking for no apparent reason.

Most importantly, there are chunks of meteorite being studied here (Some with glowing crystals) as well as bits of glowing green slime (the same seen outside the observatory). It seems like the Scientist was studying something slimy that came here from SPACE! Most worrisome, a glass tube that once seemed to hold something larger than a human is now broken with a trail of slime headed towards a broken hole in the wall!

Guests exit through the hole in the wall to a false outdoors area (Like the ET queue) to hop into the boats and head to face the creature! The Scientist's voice can be heard over the radio asking for help and it is up to the guests to answer that call!

The actual boats are essentially the same as the ones for Pirates of the Caribbean but with some neon slime painted on the sides.

Ride-Through Act 1 - The Edge of Town

This first part of the ride continues the Forest aesthetic of the loading station. There is a road guests float by and occasional signs/billboards since this is meant to feel like we are just outside of town.

There is signs of destruction, claw marks, knocked over trees, and bits of slime to signal that we are on the trail of the creature. This section is more atmospheric and light on gags, but there are a few here. Though we don't see the Monster, the Scientist, or the Damsel at all.

A couple drove out to a hidden spot in the woods to play some Back Seat Bingo, but now they are holding each other in fear huddled in the car. The front of it is all smashed up and covered in slime.

Guests then pass by a Greaser knocked out at the base of a tree. His bike is stuck in the gooped up slime dangling from the tree bobbing up and down in the glowing, viscous goo.

From here the tree cover gets thicker and the signs of civilization start to fade into the distance.

Ride-Through Act 2 - The Swamplands

This section kicks off with a woman's scream off in the distance!

We hear the Scientist's voice over the radio saying that we need to rescue her!

"You might be her only hope!"

Here in the swamp, we see the Monster ourselves! Though only partially visible as it still hides in the water.

As we go through the swamp, we see the Scientist in his own boat searching for the creature. As a fun gag, his flashlight somehow always misses the Monster with the slime creature just out of sight.

There's a few other gags with the slime monster and the Scientist not being able to find him despite the Monster being in plain sight.

Eventually we hear a loud CRACK!

After turning a corner we see the source of the noise! The Scientist's boat was attacked by the Monster and now he is slowly sinking! He tells the guests to go on ahead and to stop the creature!

Ride-Through Act 3 - The Caves

Guests enter into a Seaside cave and see the Damsel clearly scared. Guests might recognize her from pictures in the lab in the queue of her with the Scientist implying they are a couple. The Monster jumps out of the water as we pass by the Damsel implying he is heading to grab her!

Next we see the Damsel stuck to a rock with the Monster's slime. She struggles against it and looks like she might just be able to break out.

Then we turn a corner and see the Monster fully for the first time! He tries to jump and attack the guests! But as we continue to get closer we see that the Damsel is hidden behind the Monster and knocks it out with a rock!

Guests then drift into the meteorite itself which is full of glowing crystals! The Scientist is planting a bomb and we go down a small hill as we hear it blow up behind us!

There is a final scene with the Damsel and the Scientist holding hands in a boat of their own.

A happy ending!

But as guests head to the dock to exit, they see a little tiny bit of slime start to form back into a creature hinting that this isn't "The End" but rather "The End?"
