INTRODUCTION

In 2006 five years after the drastic reimagining of the park, Disney announced their plan to do a major expansion of Disney MGM Studios that would include a new simpler name, Disney Studios and two new areas to replace the old tram tour, Toho Town and Surf Swell Beach. After breaking ground late in 2006, both areas after 2 years of construction would open in summer 2008. Both areas would receive critical acclaim and would cause attendance to sky rocket at Disney Studios making it the third most visited theme park in the United States by the end of 2010.
