1. Wilhelm Basch was born on 20 August 1845 to Herman Basch and Rosalie Jellinek. See JewishGen.
2. Lazar Basch was born on 12 December 1851 to Herman Basch and Rosalie Jellinek. His birthdate is sometimes incorrectly given as 22 December 1851. See JewGen Hungarian Births and Ancestry.
3. Regine Basch was born in Pesth to Herman and Sali Telinek (sic) on 29 July 1854. See JewGen Hungarian births and Ancestry.
4. Herman Basch is listed as a “fruchte sensale” in the 1867 Pesth address book. Work address is given as 11 Palatingasse. Home address is Palatingasse 16. See Hungaricana. In later years Armin Basch and Herman Basch are listed at the same address. Armin is Hungarian for Herman.
5. We know Armin was born in 1811 as when he died in 1899 he was said to be 88 years old. See Pester Lloyd 16 December 1899.
6. Armin donates to the Jewish school in Lengyeltoti. See Journal of the Folk Teacher, Néptanítók lapja 7. évfolyam, 1874

8. Hermann Basch is first listed as “fruchte sensale” at Konigsgasse 46 (Kiralyi utca) in 1859. See Hungaricana.

10. Hermann Basch was listed as a member of the Pesth Chewra Kadischa in the 1867 address book. See Hungaricana. We cannot be sure how long he was a member as there are no earlier volumes. He is not listed in 1871 which is the next available edition. It is possible that the Budapest Jewish community records hold more information.

14. Basch, Armin is listed living at VI, Gyar utca 3 in the 1880 address book. See Hungaricana. Importantly he is listed as both Armin and Hermann which adds confidence that they are one and the same person.
15. Gyar utca means factory street. Nowadays it is known as Liszt Ferenc ter. See Terezvaros Ittlakunk
16. Armin retired 1883. See Magyar Compass 1883 business directory where an asterisk appears beside his name denoting retirement. In the 1883 address book his work address is given as VI Gyar Utca 3. His residential address is given as VI Damjanich utca 51.
17. The contract of sale between Armin Basch (trader) and Lajos Reich (trader) are held in the Budapest City Archives. Armin’s address is given as Kiraly utca 82. See Hungaricana
18. In 1888 Dr Vilmos Basch is listed living at Kiraly utca 82, the same address as his father. His occupation is given as opera singer thus linking the opera singer to the family. See Hungaricana
19. Armin is listed as living at Profeta utca 6 in 1894 (see Arcanum), 1898 (see Hungaricana) and 1899 (see Hungaricana). His funeral notice gives his place of mourning in German as Prophetengasse 6 (Pester Lloyd, 16 Dec 1899). His grandson Oszkar Banfi was listed at the same address in 1898 (see Hungaricana), 1899 (see Hungaricana), 1900 (see Hungaricana).
20. Death of Rosalie Basch reported in Wiener Zeitung, 13 Feb 1891 p2. It is likely that this was also reported in the Extrablatt but the issue has not been digitised. This is information that we previously unknown.
21. Vilmos Basch, stockbroker listed at Klotild utca 16 in 1899 (see Hungaricana). This is the same address that he advertised his singing school in March 1899 (Pester Lloyd, 21 March 1899). He remains at this address until 1911.Armin Basch died 15 December 1899. See Pester Lloyd 15 Dec 1899.
