Can I do strenuous activity after my excision?
NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Sorry to put this in bold but we want you to have the best outcome possible. Skin cancer excisions require removal of a significant amount of skin tissue. Unfortunately, none of us get to choose the location of the skin cancer or other skin lesions. When the tissue is repaired there is increased tension at the excision site to close the gap. This is especially true in areas of high tension such as legs, shoulders and backs. Occluded areas such as the groin and armpit are also at increased risk of poor healing.
Activity restriction will depend on the site of your excision.
We love Colorado too and love our outdoor activities but please take care of your excision site for at least two weeks after the procedure. Any rapid movement or strain on the procedure site can cause opening of the wound, delayed wound healing, increased risk of infection and scar.
Some locations have such high stress that even normal activity can cause separation of the wound. Lower legs are common. Please reach out if you are concerned we are always here to help and evaluate.
Be smart and reach out if you have questions.
AFTER THE WOUND HAS HEALED GET OUT THERE AND ENJOY BEAUTIFUL COLORADO (WITH EXCELLENT SUN PROTECTION OF COURSE)
