TINTED SUNSCREEN
Tinted Sunscreen is extremely important in melasma and hyperpigmentation prone skin.
The iron oxide in a tinted sunscreen prevents hyperpigmentation. Below are some tinted sunscreens for a variety of skin types.
ACNE PINK/RED SCARS or HYPERPIGMENTATION

It can be irritating and can worsen active acne.

Eucerin Dark Spot Corrector: Apply serum to skin twice daily. Apply Radiant Tone Daily Lotion in am and Radiant Tone Night Cream in Evening.

APPLY: Prescription Hydroquinone. Apply to hyperpigmentation only. Use Hydroquinone for 4 months and stop for 2 months.

Apply: Retinoid. Apply pea sized amount of retinoid to dry skin.
Decrease frequency if you notice irritation
Apply: Moisturizer (optional). If skin tolerating retinoid well, wait 60 minutes prior to apply moisturizer. If skin is irritated by moisturizer apply moisturizer immediately after applying retinoid.

MELASMA
Melasma appears as dark pigment on skin especially on forehead, cheeks, upper lip and chin. Melasma is a chronic condition and treatments are used to control the symptoms but are often not a cure. There are prescription strengths treatments that can be helpful. Please ask for more information at your dermatology appointment. All of the above creams can be helpful. Additionally, the Cyspera system is one of the best over the counter treatment systems for Melasma.
Cyspera is a cysteamine cream that helps treat dark spots including melasma and hyperpigmentation.
1) Wash face with gentle cleanser
2) Dry Skin Completely (consider waiting an hour)
3) Apply cream either to entire face or to affected areas only. It may causea burning sensation.
4) Leave on for 15 minutes and then wash off with gentle cleanser
5) Apply moisturizer
