Painted causes wide, splotchy markings, consisting of white and black patches. Either white or black may be the ‘base’ layer, with the other forming smaller patches almost completely encircled by the base. These should be irregular and can be a mix of rounded, streaky, and ragged markings, overall creating an irregular effect.

Painted should cover at least 25% of the dergon, and can cover up to 80%.
